Katie and Doug married on Saturday at the beautiful St. Peter’s Church in Arley, Worcestershire…
Doug is a volunteer on the Severn Valley Railway, and so naturally he and his groomsmen travelled to Arley by steam train (and I came along too!) they were so accommodating and the boys had compartments to themselves; photos at the main station in Kidderminster followed up with some around the lovely station in Arley itself. the signal box there is the one Doug trained at, so obviously had to be part of the day too. Oh, and a shovel arch as they exited the church because of course.
There were a ton of moving parts to this day, and kudos to Katie and Doug for pulling together such a fun, relaxed day for looooads of people which was basically just a big party in a field (as it should be). They prioritised using local suppliers for everything as well as family talent for things like flowers, cakes and so on. They found me because the groom’s Mum lives on my road, so that was an easy one!
Bouncy castle, hog roast, ice cream, village hall, steam locomotive turning up in the distance at exactly the right time, whippets, Mum of the Groom singing, bridesmaids with their own Beyonce-style wind machines, did I mention the bouncy castle? We even got a bit of rain which after the summer we’ve had so far was more than welcome. Oh, and a small horse turned up with flowers in its hair. Of course it did. Anything else? My daughter Poppy often assists when she’s home from uni and I’ve been mucking about recently with a gimmicky retro lens from Retropia* so I tasked her with taking a few background pics as well as ‘holding my stuff’. Annoyingly she got some sweet bangers, so now she’s cursed with low-key second shooting for me on her holidays and a couple of her images are sprinkled in here :)
(There is a whole rant within me about this, but basically it turns my nice digital camera into a disposable one with fuzzy, grainy vintage-style images like the ones your nan took in the 80’s. Please note that real photographers were busy at the time taking actual quality, in focus film images so don’t be convinced that all photography was shite/blurry/wonky/out of focus back then because it wasn’t. Our parents were just rubbish and our cameras were cheap but nostalgia sells so here we are. I hate myself for loving it. I’m a hypocrite and a sucker for the vibes)
